Handy for broadband users
We've learnt today that users of the XScale powered Iyonix can install Debian GNU/Linux on their machines via a network install. We've also noticed that it's possible to purchase Iyonixes with linux pre-installed, although you'll need contact Castle.
During the Debian installation, the linux kernel and driver modules can be downloaded from iyonix.com - see the Debian Linux for RISC OS machines installation guide for details. Installation CDs are still available and come with various end user support options. The CDs are also handy for people on narrowband internet connections or wish to install Debian on non-Iyonix ARM powered platforms.
The current linux kernel used in the Iyonix Linux project, 2.4.19-rmk7-ds3-pn1, is said to be working but there are problems with the USB resetting on return to RISC OS and there's no working sound or RTC. Users should make sure they've read the online documentation thoroughly and any contributed patches are welcome.
indeed, although sometimes the mouse don't work when I return to RISC OS and I need to hit the reset button to have RISC OS completely working 10 seconds later.
