Finally makes X usable
Peter Naulls has completed and released online a driver for Iyonix Linux users that utilises the NVidia GeForce graphics card in the Iyonix. The driver uses the 2D acceleration features of the card and opens up the opportunity to sensibly run the X Windows desktop on the Iyonix, as the previous FrameBuffer driver was just too slow.
X Windows is a highly popular desktop environment, commonly used in Unix related platforms. Peter also credits Xios, saying "the work on the accelerated driver was made possible by sponsorship from Xios". Peter's Unix Porting Project is also incidentally working on the ChoX11 library, which aims to bring the huge range of X11 software to RISC OS.
While Peter's driver is available for free, you can buy ARM Linux installation CDs to support Peter's work and be entitled to email and telephone end user support. A Linux CD with email support starts at 28 quid.
How do I use this new zImage? Putting it in /boot and pointing /vmlinux to it has no effect (kernel version still seems the same) and when using it in the risc-os directory as image linux can't be started anymore.
