| Welcome to Debian and KDE |
|
Peter Naulls has announced the availability of a "plug-in-and-go" set up for the Iyonix Linux port. As part of the service, you'll receive an 80 GB hard disc which contains a pre-configured Debian system partitioned in a way that meets your requirements. It also includes a large range of installed software including the Gnome and KDE environments, browsers and other productivity office suited software.
In addition, a new version of the Iyonix Linux 2.4.21 kernel is available online. The new kernel supports "most of the Iyonix hardware" and also now the real time clock and sound.

This is shaping up to be a damn good reason to go for an Iyonix. I'm sure that there must be many RISC OS users like myself who are curious about Linux and are looking for an easy way in. Purchasing an Iyonix with the whole thing installed and set up is going to attract quite a bit of interest. Keek up the good work, Peter. |

Are there any performance figures to show how it runs compared to X86 or PowerPC versions of Linux? |

Benchmarks burn my eyes. No, there aren't. Besides exactly what hardware would you compare it with? (That's a rhetorical questions). It's usable, but it's not the efficiently coded RISC OS. |
