TIB readers automatically re-directed to DrobePRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iconbar.com, the popular NoughtPointOne managed news website for RISC OS users, has today officially been taken over by drobe.co.uk, the world's first RISC OS tabloid to use a logo that features a blue rocket. The hand over took place at yesterday lunchtime, in a down market Coventry pub where Darren, the landlord, gives you a funny eye if you're aged under 30, for a disclosed cash sum of nineteen quid and forty eight pence plus a hacked yet Matt Furniss signed copy of the Acorn port of Alone in the dark.
Web requests to
http://www.iconbar.com/ are being automatically redirected to drobe.co.uk as we speak, via the miracle of the recent emerging technology called the Internet. Iconbar first opened its doors in March 2000, with an inspiring post by Tim Fountain.
Chris Williams, editor of Drobe Launchpad, said: "Christ, it's about time too. Every time we've tried to influence the RISC OS userbase with blatant spin and painfully unfunny sarcasm, Iconbar has always been there with the facts. We would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling kids.
"Anyway, we'll be merging its forums with ours and renaming the Playpen forum to the No-laughs-No-bloody-complaints forum. All Iconbar staffers can continue writing articles for drobe.co.uk, although they won't get a company car and the day trip to Stuart Tyrrell's office has been cancelled. Everything else should be business as unusual."
Iconbar currently provides a thriving forum, which discusses blistering hot topics ranging from RiscPC hardware to an obsession with a particular Devonshire tourist trap to John Hoare's superior procrastination abilities. Its news coverage of RISC OS issues, such as recent Firefly DVD releases, has struck fear into the hearts of RISC OS spin doctors.
One Iconbar insider, who wished to remain anonymous, commented: "Insider? Firstly, I'm not inside a website, how can I be inside a website? It's just not possible, how many times do I have to correct you? You're always wrong, it's incredible."
A riscos.org spokesperson who did actually wish to be named, but their name was written on a postit note that we subsequently lost, exclaimed: "It was perfect, just perfect last night. Romantic meal at a quality French restaurant, followed by a stroll by the river, illuminated by the cool, evening lights - best date ever. Oh, yeh and well done to Drove Launchmad or whatever they're called."
Iconbar.com reader Hugo MacMuffinmounter blubbed: "It's terrible. I mean, orange and green in a logo? What were the Drobe people thinking? Long live the blue tables. I'm going to get a petition together."
