Raising cash from computering bygones

Wakefield 2004: The Acorn RISC OS Computer Show

Chris Hughes, organiser of this year's Wakefield Show, has called on people to donate unwanted computer kit to the event's charity stall. Money raised from the stand will go towards the Wakefield Hospice and the show website says they've raised over ten thousand pounds so far, from previous shows.

"The 9th Wakefield Show on the weekend of 15th and 16th May at Thornes Park Athletics Stadium, will once again have a charity stall, raising money primarily for Wakefield Hospice," writes Chris in an email.

"It will once again be a large four open sided stand with we hope enough space for the donated items. People can either bring items they wish to give to the charity stall on the day or arrange to send or deliver them in advance to the Wakefield Hospice who are providing some storage facilities till the show."

Advance tickets for the show are now available and don't forget the prize draws either. The event is, incidentally, sponsored by APDL, Virtual Acorn, Stuart Tyrrell Developments, MW Software, Finneybank, Castle Technology, Spellings Computer Services, Richard Hallas and Crawford Printers.

I read that as "Slow charity stall calls for old git".

Put the Michelob down and step away from the monitor......

I think this means you either need a new monitor or a visit to the optician. I could could even read it clearly on this Win 2K box! :-)

Good place to get cheap floppy discs :) and if anything breaks such as your mouse you can quite possibly get a replacement (or parts) for a few quid from the charity stall :)

Recieved my advance ticket yesterday, looks like it's going to be another good show. Be there.

I was very pleased with the original Elite with near perfect condition manuals (unlike my sellotaped together, lost its cover one). Even had the competition entry card in it.

I once turned up with one or two items to donate, but they thought I was trying to buy them.

Too late for the SW Show, I've taken charge of a pile of old BBC/Archie era bits and pieces. Trouble is, I never used these so I don't really know what I have.

Anyone going past Bristol to the Wakefield Show who could take some or all of this stuff to the Charity Stall? Alas, I can't go and since the oad includes 5 monitors, posting it isn't an option.. :-(

Contact me via email address on (shameless plug) the Chairman's email address on the BARUG website if you can help or if you're after some of the equipment.
