Published: 31st May 2004, 23:26:21 | Permalink | Printable Curse those exchange rates RISC OS users in New Zealand have been offered a special, exclusive "just for .nz" offer on RISC OS 4, according to local dealer Robert Greenfield of Webmonster. Provided that Robert can get enough orders together, qualifying users can pick up RISC OS 4.02 for NZ$250 and 4.39 (aka Adjust) for NZ$300. Robert, who is a music teacher by day, explained: "I emailed Paul Middleton at RISCOS Ltd. about the latest Authorised Installer prices for RO4.02 and RO4.39. He emailed back with the special offer. It was nice that he realised I'm in New Zealand and the UKP-NZD exchange rate gives RISC OS products a right kicking over (PC) stuff from Asia, which offers 'better value for money'. Ahem." The unfavourable exchange rates from pound sterling to currencies in the southern hemisphere are often cited as purchasing stumbling blocks for users down under. Initiatives such as this and the Iyonix Chuditch are therefore attempting to tackle this issue. Contact Robert for more details and so forth. "For a labourer, or for a managing director?" Labour for who and manage for what? When I came from Australia to NZ, the NZQA (qualifications) said sorry, papers not good but you can work for our govt. schools for $350 after tax per week. The last two years I taught English classes to ESOL student @ $5 per hour per student with each session being 2 hours each, and a total of 35-40 students in groups of about 10-15 and attending 2 or 3 times per week I totalled an average of $700 per week for about a third of the time I spend at school for $350 per week. Labourer = the past 9 months I have been working in the school holidays with many of my wife's Thai friend's who are Stoppers (dry wallboard plasterers) where they average per week between $2,000 and $3,000 per week ( sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more, depending on how busy they are). When you have under 12 month experience they only pay between 30% to 60% of what they earn until you are competently skilled. Yes they earn big money and hardly speak English, but the big company project managers I spoke to on some of the sites we worked on said they were some of the best that they have had for some time. I guess I only teach during the day out of interest sake, not for the money. Another Kiwi mate of mine is on the top scale for teaching, but will only work relieving (Part Time), his main income is a reading tuition, a lawn mowing and a car sales businesses, like me he only teaches during the day for "fun"! As for average pay scales... A normal job never makes money when you work for your job. Your job has to work for you. My father in law has a 40 year old Ford he still drives in Australia, hand painted with a brush and seldom fails him. Everybody laughs at him about his old bomb car, but I think his reply is so clever, "My car works for me, I don't work for my car" My father in law's statement is why I love my RISC OS computer so much!!
