Fresco heads for DSP silicon By Chris Williams. Published: 17th Aug 2004, 23:23:12 | Permalink | PrintableWish you were here From the Where-Are-They-Now, or to be more precise, Where-Is-It-Now department comes the news that the ANT Fresco web browser is heading for DSP based silicon, following a coupling with Texas Instruments' "digital media processors".
The union of the web browser and the TI DM64x processor would appear to open the possibility of interweaving multimedia streams and HTML rendered information, in hardware. It's a scary thought, and a long leap away from the old RISC OS desktop incarnation of Fresco. In addition, Fresco began shipping in Spring this year to the German cable TV market, as it was bundled on Pace cable TV STBs.

Prototype affordable Braille display in development A low-cost computer-controlled Braille board has been prototyped by a RISC OS-using university student. Undergraduate Edward Rogers hopes to sell his completed units for as little as 200 quid each to schools and families to allow more blind children to continue learning Braille. And he said he wanted to launch his venture using RISC OS-powered kit before offering a package for other platforms.
