Websites, security, software

Round up motifIconbar, as you may have noticed, is back online after it was earlier disposed of by defacers. There's still faith in the NoughtPointOne network, as the PCITV website is due to relocate to the online RISC OS hub. Speaking of moved websites, Justin Fletcher has shifted his website to gerph.org, while Michael Curtis has moved his website and software to riscos.moltenmercury.org.

As mentioned on the RISC OS security mailing list, a weakness has been found in MD5, which is a method of generating 'digital signatures' of files.

For anyone considering buying an Iyonix, Castle are now offering money off a 19" triple input LCD monitor when bought with a new machine.

Software news
David O'Shea has uploaded a beta version of DOSFS2, which according to David, "allows you to read (but not write) large DOS discs, both FAT32 and greater than 2GB in size, and gives long filenames." DOSFS2 is meant to be a replacement to the RISC OS component DOSFS, and currently supports RISC OS 5 only.

Binary newsgroup utility nzbgrab has been updated with bug fixes, support for JPEG, GIF and RAR files. Author Kees Meijer commented, "Most of these things were possible due to the beta testers and their support."

APDL's David Holden recently told Archive readers that APDL are "nearing completion of a new version of Schema2", which is also to be Iyonix compatible. They're after beta testers familiar with spreadsheet, so perhaps you should get in touch if you're interested. Also, Dave "APDL/ProAction" Bradforth announced before the weekend that he's stepping back from the software side of operations. AcornArcade reports that APDL have also slapped two classic old era games, Nevryon and Technodream, on CD.

Excellent system diagnostic tool Bazound has been updated to make it easier to hunt down an offending program if your sound system falls apart like a cheap motorcycle. Encryption app GnuPG is up to version 1.2.5, email reader TapirMail has been bug-fixed some more. The RISC OS Dict port now has a frontend, for when the taskwindow just isn't good enough. And finally, Jeremy Brayshaw has produced a new face for Tock.

The Merlin project since 18th May - 6 weeks consultation and compiling results should be nearing "News break"? Bazound sounds sound!! Interesting, many of times my computer lost it's sound, and with the recent !Tock has it moments disabling the sound! Tock is not happy with my RO4 PlayIt (8 or 16 bit) sound settings, it did work afew times and then couldn't seem to hold PlayIt sound from disabling. Regards, Steve

Several features on drobe do not work with NetSurf due to the lack of JavaScript support

Ok I am now using another Risc OS browser 'Fresco' and I still cannot see these 'features' :-( or :-) ? Which Risc OS browsers do these fully function with?

Apparently if you use the 'no frills' layout then you don't get to see the Google ads. Which for me is a plus for using the style I prefer anyhow :-)

Enable "Popups" may help some title features. I use Oregano2 and sometimes NetSurf, maybe use one browser with disabled Popups and the other browser with Popups enabled when you may need this feature to get certain links and titles to work? Regards, Steve.

It's nice to see there's some movement in the commercial software world with APDL as well as all the lovely free stuff (and Paul Spranger's Dict frontend is particularly excellent IMHO!).

The ads do appear using Oregano2. But right now there don't seem to be any on this page any more :indiff: There's some down the right hand side of the last article tho'

The ad code will be tagged onto the page only when the drobe engine thinks there is enough spare (blank) space to fit them in.
