Volunteers wanted, charity hardware not wantedSome news emerging from the organisers of the Guildford show, which is to be held later this month:
The South East RISC OS show organisers are currently appealing for people to act as helpers for the event. Activities involved in the job include manning the entrance doors, managing the car parking, preparing the show theatre and being a general dogsbody for the exhibitors.
"Helpers get free entry to the show of course. For those who stay at the end to clear up, we go for a drink afterwards at a nearby 'watering hole', which sells 'real water'", said show organiser responsible for volunteers, Dave Lane. "The jobs are all straightforward and most jobs involve at least one other helper. People helping during the show need do only one or two hours. You can specify which job(s) you want to do or do not want to do."
The show is held on October 23rd, in Guildford, UK. Although the show opens from 10am to 4pm, helpers would need to be available on the Friday evening to help set the event up, before the show opens on Saturday and also after the show has closed to help clean the place up - because everyone knows how much of a party the South East show usually turns into.
If you want to get involved and contribute towards an important annual RISC OS event, email Dave or call him on 01737 767210.
No hardware for us, chum
As mentioned elsewhere but worth reporting here, the show charity stand is refusing to accept hardware donations, and will only stock magazines and software. This is due to new European legislation on 'electronic waste'.
