Win free kit this Christmas from STD

By Chris Williams. Published: 1st Dec 2004, 05:05:14 | Permalink | Printable

Tis the season to be jolly

STD's Christmas give-away graphicEmbracing the Christmas spirit, Stuart Tyrrell Developments are from today running a series of free prize draws. From the 1st December to the 24th, punters can win free hardware each day by visiting the prize draw website and sending STD an email with the current draw code and contact details.

All the rules, terms and conditions are here, in the prize draw announcement. Today's freebie, to start things off, is a PS2MouseMini interface. We asked STD for a list of prizes but STD's Matt Edgar told drobe.co.uk: "As it's supposed to be a surprise each day, giving you the exact details would kind of spoil that. There'll be a mix of upgrades to suit various machines, some peripherals, the odd fun item and some more valuable surprises."

STD are also using the prize draw to urge customers to donate cash to charity this Christmas, and the company is this year supporting Shelter. STD's Stuart Tyrrell explains, "Christmas is traditionally time to consider those who may be less fortunate than ourselves, and at Stuart Tyrrell Developments we would like to take the opportunity of this series of draws to encourage participants to make a personal donation to a registered charity of their choice."

Nice idea! Pity that to participate you're required to list a UK postal address - probably since non UK postal delivery is too expensive.

Expensive postal or not, RISC OS just has to learn to do business outside of the UK. Would an option for non UK winners to pay the extra shipping work, or is the shipping costs greater than some of the prize values?

"9) Due to the complexity of local regulation of prize draws, we regret that entries can only be accepted for delivery to UK addresses."

Pretty self explanatory really. Doesn't look like it's anything to do with cost, just legel problems.

For those non-UK residents who wish to enter and are prepared to pay the subsequent postage I could offer a "virtual" address and postcode :-)

A sealed bid auction would have raised even more money for charity than a draw.

Emm...and tomorrow's freebie is my network card that i sent them in April. Or maybe I can bid for the Unipod I ordered back then too. Clearly, christmas is more of a priority than their customers. Humbug.

Have you asked them about it. Clearly there is more to what you posted than you are letting us know.

I think the guilty party knows that the comments were OTT, because he hasn't 'fessed up.
