Tell UPP what games you want for Christmas By Chris Williams. Published: 19th Dec 2004, 16:41:30 | Permalink | PrintableLeave some mince pies and brandy In a bid to perhaps shed his 'Simon Cowell of RISC OS' image, Peter Naulls is offering to port a number of games to RISC OS for Christmas this year. On the right is a screenshot of one particular game, ported by Alex Macfarlane Smith with the help of the Unix Porting Project, that will be released along with others on Christmas day.
"I'm strictly not going to give any details beyond this, but the Unix Porting Project has a number of games and games related programs that are just about ready as a side effect of more mainstream application efforts and will be released very shortly," says Peter, a Drobe.co.uk writer.
"Because it's Christmas, I'm inviting entries for one game to join this release, chosen by someone here. I will make a choice based upon technical merits and popularity and any other basis I care to make up. An SDL game will have a better chance of being possible, but don't let that restrict your votes."
Drop an email to Peter as soon as you can, if you have any game requests, to unix [at] chocky [dot] org. Bearing in mind that the game should ideally be open source and playable on RISC OS hardware, avoid suggesting the likes of TuxRacer and Half Life 2. Believe me, I've tried.

Star Fighter 3000: The Next Generation review Star Fighter 3000: The Next Generation was born from the 3D0 version of the original SF3K that was ported back to RISC OS and this year freed from programmers' hard discs for the platform to enjoy, writes Andrew Weston. In this review Andrew weighs up much-improved graphics and sound against playability and stability.
