Tell UPP what games you want for Christmas

Leave some mince pies and brandy

hack and slash funIn a bid to perhaps shed his 'Simon Cowell of RISC OS' image, Peter Naulls is offering to port a number of games to RISC OS for Christmas this year. On the right is a screenshot of one particular game, ported by Alex Macfarlane Smith with the help of the Unix Porting Project, that will be released along with others on Christmas day.

"I'm strictly not going to give any details beyond this, but the Unix Porting Project has a number of games and games related programs that are just about ready as a side effect of more mainstream application efforts and will be released very shortly," says Peter, a Drobe.co.uk writer.

"Because it's Christmas, I'm inviting entries for one game to join this release, chosen by someone here. I will make a choice based upon technical merits and popularity and any other basis I care to make up. An SDL game will have a better chance of being possible, but don't let that restrict your votes."

Drop an email to Peter as soon as you can, if you have any game requests, to unix [at] chocky [dot] org. Bearing in mind that the game should ideally be open source and playable on RISC OS hardware, avoid suggesting the likes of TuxRacer and Half Life 2. Believe me, I've tried.

Peter's Christmas games announcement - send your requests in by midnight on Monday (20th December)

anybody stumbling about for game ideas, there is a suitable list at [link] though i doubt peter wants to be bombarded with hundreds of different game requests. how about a nice drving sim like torcs? hmm, i see that NetHack is celebrating a birthday. this port is extremely timely, nice work!

Well, I won't consider game requires if they aren't emailed to the address. If you want your choice to have a chance, get your vote it.

Of course, some of these games aren't terribly hard to port, and can sometimes be done without any programming knowledge, so there's no restriction on just me doing them.

Ok, only a few hours left to vote. If you don't, it'll be someone else's choice. Don't forget to include the URL with your submissions.

Thanks for all the votes. The winning choice will be announced at Xmas. As it happens, there are effectively several winners, because some of the things voted for were already planned for release.
