Software news in brief

SSH, Ogg Vorbis, utilities and more

Round up motifAs the year winds down, let's round up this month's news in brief.

In the name of Christmas, Liquid Silicon are offering a deal on RISC OS games bought before the end of the month: buy two games out of Abuse, Choas Engine, Heretic and Hexen, Quake and Tek and get the cheapest one half price.

Michael Borcherds has released a new version of Winclip, which allows RISC OS in VirtualRiscPC to access the Windows clipboard, and also tweaked graphic conversion utility EMF2Draw. Drobe writer Peter Naulls has uploaded a beta test port of the ogg vorbis tools, which includes an Ogg audio file encoder and player.

Theo Markettos has updated the telnet to SSH service SSHProxy to be 32bit compatible and also recompiled NettleSSH, originally developed by Justin Fletcher and the Nettle team, to be 32bit safe too - all available from Theo's website. Stefan Bellon has updated encryption tool GnuPG. UnitConv, Chris Johnson's SI and Imperial conversion utility, is up to version 2.20.

Matthew Price has added a user interface to Henrik Bjerregaard Pedersen's VNCserver and viewer, download the zipfile from here. Labelling application LaBella now includes CD label and envelopes. Erik Groenhuis has developed a command line BASIC tokeniser, for programmers in need of such a utility.

If you haven't yet voted in the Best of 2004 RISC OS awards, why not? Closing date is December 30th and you could win a copy of new game Desktop Repton Plus (which is shipping now, incidentally - review imminent).

And finally, it appears the bottom has fallen out of the A500 auction market (versus the 100 quid A5000 from earlier this month).

Re: A500 for 7.52

The cheap price is surely because the seller specified "pickup only". A big mistake in the world of selling on eBay I think!

It will at least be going to a good home.
