Tematic calls for codersBy Chris Williams. Published: 22nd Dec 2004, 15:53:57 | Permalink | Printable
Now, don't all rush at onceTematic, the embedded division of Castle, are on the look out for RISC OS aware engineers to join their team. The company, based in Cambridge, is currently recruiting contract and permanent software development staff with experience in RISC OS and embedded technology to work on projects for client OEMs.
The group, mostly made up of ex-Pace Micro and ex-Acorn staff, are keeping quiet on their current projects, however revealed that they have worked on a high volume set top box project. Set top boxes are an old chestnut for RISC OS - a product area that Acorn dived into a little too early but is now simmering on the minds of consumer electronics giants as a means to turn every house and hotel room into an entertainment centre. "Our focus on low power ARM processors in the Set Top Box and portable consumer media markets has been very rewarding for us in recent months," says Tematic's Peter Wild. "We now have a requirement for more engineers so that we can continue developing our business to become a major supplier to consumer electronics OEMs".
In a press briefing earlier in the year, Tematic boasted that it's helped "deliver over $100m worth of RISC OS based products to customers" and worked on technology new to RISC OS, including IPTV, wireless and WMP support. Sources say Tematic's clients include Pace, who recently launched an IPTV STB for hotels and the hospitality industry and a high definition video STB.
