RISC OS show details for 2005

Pencilled in for Feb and May

The organisers of annual RISC OS events have already confirmed details of shows in February and May.

The organisers of the Wakefield shows, the WROCC, in a statement said they "are pleased to announce that the 10th Wakefield Show will take place over the weekend of 21/22 May 2005. This is the premier and only two day show in the RISC OS calendar."

Show news logoThe organisers of the RISC OS South West show, held in February, have also published event details on their website.

Last year's Wakefield 2004 show was voted the best event of the year by the drobe.co.uk readership. This year's show will feature the usual prize draw and show theatre, a free mini-bus service for connecting national trains to the venue, and a 'small developer area'. If you wish to exhibit at the event, contact the organisers now to get a show information pack.

The 2005 Wakefield show is sponsored by MW Software, Advantage Six, APDL and 3QD (formerly VirtualAcorn). Chris Hughes continues to be the event's chief coordinator, who has kept the show running for the WROCC despite ill health in previous years. Some exhibitors at the December Midlands show expressed concern over whether or not Wakefield 2005 would happen, commenting that it would be down to Chris and the WROCC to decide if it goes ahead.

The venue for this year is the familiar home of the Wakefield show, the Thornes Park Athletics Stadium in Wakefield, UK. More details on the event are in the announcement below.

Meanwhile, the first RISC OS event of 2005 will be the RISC OS South West show, scheduled for Saturday February 26 in North Somerset, UK. The South West event is supported by BARUG and WAUG and is organised by John Stonier - see the link below for more information.

Blimey. First RO articles of 2005. You're cRaZy Chris. :-D Hope this year's Wakefield is a little more upbeat than 2004's. Lovely A9's to take away on the day sub 1 grand... maybe? :-)

That RISC OS shows have been successful in 2004 and will continue in 2005 is excellent news indeed. Let's hope that they'll be more new users at the shows this year now that they've bought their brand new "cheap" Iyonix PCs. :)

As for "This is the premier and only two day show in the RISC OS calendar."

I don't know about the "premier" since it's not quite clear to me what that word means - me being German is my excuse for this ignorance :-) But as for the "only two day show" I have to object. The annual GAG meeting, an albeit smaller RISC OS show in Germany has been a two day event ever since starting on a Saturday at 11h and ending some time in the early afternoon on Sunday. If the show closes over night depends on the guests, that is we did have the odd time where some users kept busy chatting, programming, playing, ... all night.

But anyhow I congratulate and am happy that Wakefield is a two day event since that does probably get some more RISC OS users on their way - especially for users from the continent flying over to UK for a one day show does tend to be too expensive.
