RSS client, programming tools and moreJames Bursa, of Netsurf fame, has developed and released Sargasso, a RISC OS RSS reader client. Written in Python and licensed under the GPL, the software fetches summaries of news and news-like websites. It works a treat, although a little patience is required when the software is fetching updates. Word on the street is that a particular software publisher is readying their own commercial RSS client for release at the Wakefield 2005 show.
Speaking of whisperings, we understand that progress on a 32bit Impression is continuing, although allegedly, developers X-Ample did not receive the full source code to the DTP package when they took on the application from Computer Concepts - forcing X-Ample Paul Reuvers to "rewrite parts of the source code, eliminate bugs, implement new features and transfer the program to 32-bit".
Desktop programming library Desklib is up to version 2.70 with various improvements from Drobe writer Peter Naulls and also John Tygat. Peter and Nick Burrett have also been working on module support in GCC - an experimental version of the C/C++ compiler package is now available for testing.
Herbert zur Nedden has updated ResFind, a utility that aids programmers in producing multi-lingual software. Bringing back really painful memories of digital signal processing exams, Roger Darlington has developed a feature full digital signal generator. Next, we couldn't have a software update article without a mention of Harriet Bazley's DDF2Html, a program that converts Impression documents to HTML, and recently updated. Scary stuff.
And finally, don't forget that free ISP aaugonline.net is set to be switched off on June 1st: websites and email will be unavailable, although users may still get a dial up connection for a while. Also, CJE Micros say they'll pay cash, hard cash, for old Viewfinder and Irlam VideoDesk cards.
