Cambridge RISC OS meet up planned

Argue over Iyonix vs A9home with a pint of real ale

The Anchor pub (white building on the left)A second meet up of RISC OS users has been organised for Cambridge next month. Following on from last November's mildly low key yet friendly gathering, organiser Peter Naulls has nominated the swanky Anchor pub as the meeting point on August 20th.

As well as bringing along a few ex-Acorn contacts, Peter also promises to demonstrate some new software or other. It could also be your chance to buy him a farewell pint, seeing as the Firefox porter is jetting off to the US west coast at some point in August.

He said today: "This is an informal meeting of those interested in RISC OS, as well as anyone involved in past or present technology relevant to Acorn or RISC OS."

According to Dave Ruck, who went to the 2004 get-together, there was a "good bit of RISC OS related chattering, drinking, playing with toys, drinking... finishing off with a nice curry."

Thanks for putting up the picture. I couldn't remember where the Anchor was.

Because being on the river narrows it to only a choice of 50 or so pubs? ;-)

Naturally I'll post a map and contact details closer to the event.

I am wondering why the street the pub is in is called Sliver Street. Is it due to the showers of glass after a flame war between RISC OS adversaries who have had too much to drink in the Anchor? Perhaps someone who lives in Cambridge can inform us before we chance attending ;-)

ITYM Silver Street. Don't know why it's called that either, though. :-)

Possibly to due the presence of silversmiths (well, someone had to make all that college silverware): [link] (page 9)

Not sure I can make it this year yet, unless I can convince my flying instructor we need to do a bit of cross country navigation :)

Hmm, as someone coming back to the RISC scene after a while away, I'd love to attend. I'll have to see about work commitments nearer the time, but fingers crossed.

It's always tricky to choose a date that's acceptable to lots of people. Last year, I made the attempt and it ended up being quite late in the year. This year, my options were somewhat limited, so I chose a time that was as least acceptable to me :-) Still, I've already had suggestions from others that they may be able to attend. At the least, Cambridge is quite accessable on the train from London and East Anglia.

Yep, location would be fine for me, it's just I can't confirm the timing until nearer to the date. I'll do my best to be there though . . .

The Anchor Pub web site says it is in Sliver Street not Silver Street, hence my question.
