South East show, 32bit Impression, and more

News in briefIt's all quiet on the RISC OS front at the moment. Here's a round up of things that have been happening in our sleepy platform.

The exhibitor list for the South East show has been confirmed. The usual suspects are listed, including RISCOS Ltd., Castle, Spellings, MW Software, CJE Micros, but no Advantage Six.

Work on 32 bit Impression is apparently "well under way", according to Xample. And you'd think so too, given that it's nearly two years since they picked up the DTP software from Computer Concepts, whose RiscPC has allegedly packed up and unable to produce any more Impression copies. Turning down offers to advertise for extra hands to help out in the porting, Xample's Paul Reuvers said, "Although I haven't been able to spend as much time on [Impression] during the past year as I hoped, provisions are being taken to ensure that more time can be dedicated to it."

Castle have updated their Iyonix FAQ, although it's lacking questions like 'Why does shutdown no longer work?', which crops up from time to time on the Iyonix mailing list. Castle say they have tweaked their site so that it's now easier for them to add answers to the list. Castle's Jack Lillingston was also speaking at ROUGOL tonight, running through this year's press releases to punters and teasing them with details of their ARM9 embedded projects.

Qercus is celebrating the opening of its new office at editor John Cartmell's house, which was apparently up for sale in March. Drop the magazine team an email, if their email is working in time, to get a party invite for the 21st. On a related note, the online publication RISC OS Cybervillage apologises for a lack of updates due to the editor losing the site's FTP password.

RiScript, we notice, has released version 5.01 to its users. Martin Avison is preparing a new version of debugging aid Reporter, with updates to the user interface, configuration system, the BASIC BackTrace feature, and the log-to-disc feature.

Losing the Site's FTP Password ??????? That is stupid, don't he uses a backup then ? If using a backup, he can always trace his password on the backup Harddisk. Suppose he is not using RISC OS, he better can use the RISC OS Internet Server Suite, at that way, also if he forget it again, still trace his passwords IMHO.

I can't wait for Impression X, too. I was thinking about defecting to another product like Easiwriter (which I tried but couldn't get on with) or OvationPro (have tried the demo version), due to the length of time it seemed to be taking for ImpX to appear. But this news is helping me to keep hold of my savings for ImpX a little longer!

6502meister2:"I can't wait for Impression X, too. I was thinking about defecting to another product like Easiwriter..." You can't really compare Impression with Easiwriter - the first is a DTP program and the latter is a word (or "structured document") processor. An obvious illustration of the difference is the fact that Easiwriter won't do frames. em2ac:As for Word import/export in Impression X - I'd like to be corrected, but I suspect that's a bit of a red herring...
