Freeware updates and Impact database improvementsDatabase Impact is now VirtualRiscPC-friendly, and has had its user interface and various other functions updated. Published by CJE Micros, the application also comes with a label printing tool, which has been updated too.
Mike Sandells has rewritten his MP3 player front end, AMPlay so that it can cope with thousands of music tracks. The tool is now 32bit compatible and generally been improved in all areas from performance to search support. Chris Bazley has improved his sound system diagnostic tool, Bazsound, to display the audio system status in real-time and also allow greater control over the output channels. A new version of ViewXLS by Anton Reiser is available: The Excel spreadsheet viewer now provides a search facility and displays formulas and notes in documents. Stefan Wuerthner says he has brought his collection of scientific software up to date.
Dave Thomas has released an updated version of his image viewer, PrivateEye. The software displays Sprite, DrawFile, JPEG, ArtWork, GIF and PNG files, and judging by the screenshot on Dave's website, porn. David Llewellyn-Jones has ported website traffic analyser, Webalizer. If you're getting stuck on Sudoku puzzles, John Evans has tweaked his solver tool. Ray Favre has tweaked his label printing tool, LaBella, to give it a new user interface and added other abilities.
First Peter Naulls was thrown out of the Select mailing list for berating his nemesis and Qercus editor, John Cartmell, while ROL staff scolded people for being too rude. Now Oregano mailing list chief Richard Brown has objected to a particular thread on the web browser's discussion group with the subject, "O2 heap of excrement". Maybe the Christmas spirit couldn't come too soon.
