Transport Tycoon Deluxe clone port released

Very pretty

OpenTTD screenshotOpenTTD, the open source clone of the Microprose classic Transport Tycoon Deluxe, has been ported by David Llewellyn-Jones.

David said: "There still seem to be some RISC OS specific bugs, which hopefully will be ironed out over time, but it's still pretty playable and includes networking code so that it can be enjoyed with users on other platforms.

"The game seems to run at a decent speed on an Iyonix, but although it should work it's likely to be a bit slow on earlier machines."

The game was first released in 1995 and is similar to the Sim City titles. The player controls a company and must transport passengers and various goods by road, rail, sea or air to create profit and compete against rival enterprises. You will need a copy of the MS Windows or DOS game to play as OpenTTD uses the original's resource files.

Hopefully David will contribute his work to the GCCSDK autobuilder so that new versions can be produced with minimum work.

The required data files are on the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe disc (available on amazon.co.uk)

Aha! So, it isn't exactly a free game after all? The port just gives us the possibility to play the game natively on our beloved system, is that it?

I've just bought a copy for under 5 off amazon.co.uk, as Lee Shepherd suggested. Excellent value I'd say.
