Merry ChristmasBy Chris Williams. Published: 25th Dec 2005, 03:30:39 | Permalink | Printable
Roll on 2006Editorial If you'll forgive the pun, it's fair to say that 2005 is just about wrapped up. I would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year, whilst hoping 2006 will turn out to be a peaceful and prosperous time for everybody everywhere. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed articles and news tips over the year, and everyone who has helped us report on RISC OS related events. A big thank you must also go to Ian Hawkins for his efforts in keeping drobe.co.uk running night and day.
Looking back, we've seen the release of USB 2 for the Iyonix, the switch off of Argonet, an Omega on TV, changes at Castle and Tematic, Intel trying to muscle in on ARM's stronghold of the embedded market, and much, much more besides: if you haven't yet voted in the Best of 2005 awards, make sure you do before the New Year's Eve - the winners of each category will be announced soon after.
This year we have served 4.5 million pages of content, thanks to larger mainstream IT news websites showing an interest in RISC OS and linking to drobe.co.uk coverage. Due to a few discrepancies in the way in which our traffic statistics are counted, the exact figure is likely to be closer to somewhere between 2.5 to 3 million pages or an average of 30,000 unique readers a month. Whichever way you look at it, thank you very much for reading drobe.co.uk, posting comments, using our RSS feed and using the search facilities.
The top article of the year was the appearance of the A9home at the Wakefield show. Second place goes to the release of the first beta version of the Firefox port. In third place, our April Fools wheeze, and in fourth and fifth, running RISC OS software on Linux and the Geminus 'wide boy' screenshot, respectively.
On reflection, this year has been about change, from companies focusing on new projects to the coming and going of developers and users. On the subject of change, I finally graduated from university this year and will be embarking upon a career as a journalist for a regional newspaper publisher in January; if anyone would like to step forward to offer themselves as a writer or day editor, please do get in touch.
Drobe will return in 2006.
