Euro show planned for June

ROL gathers exhibitors for Dutch event

Photo of UtrechtA RISC OS show to be held in Europe this summer has been planned by RISCOS Ltd. Following the news that the Big Ben Club's event organisers were unable to arrange an Expo 2006, ROL are hoping to repeat the success of their December road show by hosting a one day exhibition in June in the Netherlands.

ROL boss Paul Middleton said: "The previous organisers of the Dutch RISC OS Expo are unable to organise the usual June show this year, so we have taken the decision to arrange an event on the same basis as the RISC OS Christmas Roadshow 2005. We hope that the usual British and local companies will attend."

Paul also called on for anyone wishing to exhibit at the show to contact his company as soon as possible.

The event should have space for about 40 stands, and a six foot table will cost 66 Euros to book - which works out to be the same price as a table booking for the December event. Potential exhibitors contacted by ROL this weekend include Castle, MW Software, the ARM Club, and AdvantageSix. It's understood that ROL are hoping to avoid charging an admission fee for punters, although they may do so to subsidise exhibitors' costs. Paul is looking to discuss this issue with exhibiting companies.

The RISC OS summer show will be taking place at the usual venue, the Hotel Mercure in Nieuwegein, on Saturday 17th June 2006. Doors will be open from 10am to 5pm.

Glad to see that ROL have stepped in to run the Dutch event. Hopefully all concerned will make pots of money.

Great news, altough a shame the BigBenClub couldn't organise it. Looks like they didn't do a thing after the original organisers left.

Lets hope it will be a profitable show to all exhibitors so it won't be the last show in the Netherlands.

Now roll on that A9home machine, Select4 and more !

Thanks RISCOS Ltd and Paul Middleton!

I dearly hope that many UK and continental companies book a table so that the list of exibitors attracts lots of visitors and thus the show turns out to be successful to thus be kept on the yearly agenda!

Well done ROL. Shows like these are good, cheap forms of advertising - just what is needed at a time like this. After all, the last thing we needed was to loose a foothold in *yet another* market.

In the future, I can see ROL holding more shows. Perhaps they might run them to demonstrate hardware & software for particular applications or demographics (i.e. a Business roadshow). For attracting special application customers it could be quite profitable.

Do we have any idea how many RO users there are on the Mainland these days?

I'd echo that, well done ROL for keeping the RISC OS flag flying (as it were) more generally in Europe.

The big danger (as always) for RISC OS (and the platform as a whole) was that it would degenerate into a "south of England" thing and be largely unknown elsewhere. The world is *out there* and RISC OS needs to be in it - and if ROL are an agent for getting RISC OS out an about in it full marks to them.

Also RISC OS is *not* just for "education" - it should be seen to be a more general platform (and if the participants in such shows manage to impart message that then it would be a job well done IMHO).

AMS: From an overseas user's point of view, the lack of dealerships offshore is a bit of a worry. Back in the Acorn days, New Zealand had several dealers throughout the country. Now there is just a single dealer (Webmonster.co.nz), while the only Iyonix distributor (esd.co.nz) has stopped supplying machines.

If we're going to expand into new markets, we'll need some kind of drive to increase the amount of dealerships accordingly. Making it easier to build Iyonixes locally would certainly be a start. It will be interesting to see if ROL and Ad6 will expand internationally, also.
