Charity stall confirmed for WakefieldBy Chris Williams. Published: 2nd Apr 2006, 22:40:30 | Permalink | Printable
Can you smell what Wakefield is cooking?
Wakefield show organisers WROCC have confirmed there will be another charity stall at this year's event - and the team have so far raised over 14,000 quid for good causes through the donations table.
Money raised from selling off legacy kit donated to the stand is given to the Wakefield Hospice, and 2006 marks eight years running since the first charity stand appeared at the show.
New regulations restricting what equipment can be dumped will mean the organisers can't run the risk of being left with a haul of unsold computers after the event as they'll need to shell out cash to pay for disposal of such items.
Show organiser Chris Hughes hoped that this year the charity stand is not "abused". PCs, printers and monitors are banned, although a limited number of RiscPCs and A7000s can be dropped off if you ask nicely in advance.
He said: "We do not want a repeat of last year where someone from the Cheshire area dumped some 40 PCs from a business on us and the Hospice, rather then have them properly disposed of. The Hospice ended up having to pay for the disposal - not very nice."

Meanwhile, a list of exhibitors is now online. The event is due to take place on Saturday May 13 2006.
