Finnybank Ltd dissolved By Chris Williams. Published: 30th Apr 2006, 23:46:56 | Permalink | PrintableWon't someone think of the subscribers? Media watch Qercus publisher Finnybank Ltd was quietly dissolved last week. The company, headed by Qercus editor John Cartmell, was terminated on April 25th, according to documentation available from Companies House. Rules surrounding the voluntary closing down of a private company state that a business can only be removed from the companies register if, among other conditions, it has not traded or carried out work in the past three months.
Despite taking on a large number of annual subscriptions, six months have passed since a issue of monthly magazine Qercus was put in the post. John neglected to mention the fate of his company during an interview after he announced he will be giving a theatre presentation at next month's Wakefield show.
One RISC OS publication editor whispered earlier today: "Although it sounds a bit naughty, I am hoping we can pinch some unhappy Qercus subscribers especially as I have just been told that Finnybank Ltd has apparently been dissolved.
"I've just checked companies house and it looks like it's true it was dissolved on the 25th of April."
Dissolution can also be performed when a company's directors wish to retire, or the sole owner returns to self-employment.
Update at 22:17 1/5/2006
John has said simply that he "did not" dissolve Finnybank, which was an unspecified "error". He added: "In any case the magazine has always been owned by Acorn Publisher." This is despite announcing in 2003 that, following the merger of Acorn Publisher and Acorn User, "Finnybank now own both Acorn Publisher and Acorn User magazine". What's more, subscription cheques should be made payable to Finnybank, and according to the magazine's website, "Finnybank Ltd produce Qercus magazine - a fusion of Acorn Publisher and Acorn User magazines". John declined the opportunity to expand further on the situation.

South West 2009 show report Martin Hansen describes his time as both a punter and an exhibitor at this year's annual RISC OS event held in the south west of the UK. While there were no major announcements ahead of the show, the otherwise friendly and mildly busy atmosphere was coloured by Friday's tragic loss of Paul Vigay.
