Wakefield workshop to demo top software

By Chris Williams. Published: 10th May 2006, 17:42:11 | Permalink | Printable

Theatre timetable now includes two AdvantageSix talks

Some computers in a rowA workshop to highlight the best software available on RISC OS will be held at this year's Wakefield show. The aim of the stand is to allow experts to spend the day demonstrating their favourite software to other punters, and share tips and techniques - without a salesperson looming over their shoulders.

The initiative, organised by Drobe's Ian Chamberlain, will use A9home and Iyonix computers, allowing users to trial software alongside each offering.

Ian said: "You'll be able to see for yourselves why many users prefer to use RISC OS to perform exciting multimedia tasks like graphic design, desktop publishing and more.

"Demonstrations will be led by ordinary users who are passionate about RISC OS computing. We have something to offer everyone; If you have questions or you are looking for advice on RISC OS software and hardware, please come to our stand for independent advice."

If you'd like to take part in the workshop, drop Ian an email to wakefield2006 (at) namesindex (dot) com. He says he's already confident with showing off ArtWorks and Techwriter, but could do with others to share their knowledge.

• The theatre timetable for the Wakefield show has undergone a reshuffle of late. Due to pressure from punters traveling from afar, AdvantageSix will be holding their first presentation at 10.45am and a second at 3.15pm. The two talks will not be the same, so visitors are recommended to pop into both.

I do hope to be able to make this years Wakefield Show and think the workshop is a very worthwhile addition.

It would be nice if an enthusiastic user of bitmap graphic software such as PhotoDesk and Compo etc could be added to the workshop.

I am probably going to buy PhotoDesk at Wakefield, so if there was someone at the workshop who could show me some of its capabilities and what it can do, it would be very useful.

I'm racking my brain to think of something I can offer to show, but I think I'll have to content myself with calling at the stand and watching.

Like vshears, I hope someone can give me some useful tips on Photodesk.

I look forward to meeting the Drobe people at their stand.

Err. Drobe don't have a stand at the show. If you mean Ian Chamberlain, then he is not supposed to be representing them, he is doing this a feature for us at the show. I have not been asked for a drobe presence! So if Drobe do want a formal presnce they better ask me quick!

I'll be too busy running between exhibitors' stands and the theatre presentations to man a stand for Drobe this time; Ian will be doing his thing on the workshop stand. If you or anyone else wants to meet up for a chat, just drop me an email - I'll probably be hanging around the NetSurf stand at any one time.

I stand corrected. But I look forward to meeting Ian there anyway. And I'll look out for Chris.
