ArtWorks 2.6 released

New renderer module for apps available

IllustrationArtWorks 2.6 is now available for purchase, along with a new rendering module, as previously promised. AW 2.6 features arrowheads drawn inside the line, various new arrowhead designs, and real time editing of graduated fills - allowing designers to see what the graduated fill will look like instantly as they move the tool's strength and direction arrow.

AW developer Martin Wuerthner said: "Drawing diagrams with arrows has always been difficult in Draw and ArtWorks because arrows are usually displayed appended to the ends of lines making it difficult to position them precisely. ArtWorks 2.6 offers arrowheads that end where the lines end."

The new AWRender module, also a chargeable upgrade, allows third party applications, such as OvationPro, to display imported documents with transparency appropriately. An updated AWViewer 1.80 is available for free download, although it does not support transparencies.

Multiple page document support and alpha channel bitmap export are still on the drawing board for future versions of ArtWorks. Martin will be demonstrating the new software at this weekend's Wakefield show.

The arrow anchor point changes are certainly useful.

In !Draw it is a pain at times when the arrows over extend the anchor point, especially when you try to make the arrow heads longer.

Good news and the new arrows work nicely. As usual when Martin announces a new version for a given date he delivers in time!

I purchased the upgrade last night and it's great! The internal arrows make a huge difference -- one of those features that once you've tried it, you wouldn't want to be without. The real-time graduated fills are stunning. The previous system of 'drag the arrow and then see the fill' was always a bit hit and miss for me. This is so much more intuitive and much more productive as a result. This is ArtWorks at its best: fun!

Good to see thoughtful updates to the interface which will make a real difference on a day-to-day basis. Thanks Martin!

I agree with Stewy - the real-time fills are a genuine 'Wow' factor to play with, and they have real utility in using AW too. Plus, the upgrade brings with it the new AWRender that upgrades TechWriter, Impression, etc (and OHP!) to display transparency in AW drawings. It's not often that you get one update that improves a whole raft of applications.
