Round up of commercial app updates

Software news in briefMessenger Pro
Version 4.12 of R-Comp's email and news client was released to users this weekend, and it includes a number of improvements. According to the change log, a bug "which caused intermittent deleting of files marked for deletion" has been fixed. Large address book lists are also handled better, selected text can be spoken by Speak, and there's plenty of other user interface and stability tweaks.

Grapevine
Hoping to tackle problems with previous releases, R-Comp have also issued version 2.11 of online chat client Grapevine to users. As well as addressing faults and bugs found by some punters, the new release also supports 7th Software's MultiDesk software. A few users have reported they are still having problems with sending files over MSN and setting their 'away' status.

Although the updates to Grapevine are released for free, R-Comp asked for voluntary donations to cover the development costs, or for punters to buy other R-Comp software.

R-Comp's Andrew Rawnsley said: "We'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who have already contributed to Grapevine's on-going development. Without the help of such people, we couldn't have produced 2.11, so they deserve a big thank you."

Impact database
CJE Micros have published an update to the Impact database software online. Upgrading to version 3.29 from 3.27 and 3.28 is free, other users will have to cough up. The new version is A9home compatible and links the recently updated documentation with the application's user interface. A PDF copy of the manual is also included.

Again a proof that R-Comp is busy to maintain their apps. Thanks for your efforts, R-Comp!

MPro remains one of the strong reasons for sticking with RISC OS. Its great to see it continuing to be developed.

I've just started using the Server version which allows you to access mail on any other machines on the network. Impressive stuff!

Thanks guys, but it is Colin we should thank for all his hard work on Mpro :) What he's done with the program in the last couple of years has been amazing. Let's hope it can keep going, cos I sure don't fancy doing email on anything other than RISC OS!

If MPro and Grapevine weren't being actively developed I would be having serious doubts about investing in new RISC OS hardware. So I'd also like to say thanks to RComp - it really is appreciated and you'll be hearing from me in the near future ^_^

Big ups to RComp! They continue to produce so much decent software, and in a market as tiny as ours. If it weren't for Grapevine and MPro, I *wouldn't* be ordering an Iyonix. Well done.

RComp and Aaron do a fantastic job. Being on the other side of the world I can still order from them and receive the goods within a week. Had a problem, emailed, an answer in minutes and a solution wdelivered ithin 24hrs. Brilliant service to go with their fantastic software.

To complete the list of upgrades, NetFetch 2.20 shipped as an upgrade to users, as well. As usual, email if you didn't receive it. 2.20 features faster downloads, sending/receiving email over SSL links, updated RSS feed handling, support for netsurf, and many other user requests.
