Quantum Software hits control-shift-F12Quantum Software has re-released its commercial software for free after proprietor Stuart Halliday announced the termination of the software company. Its previously paid-for packages were published online this week for all to download, as a way of marking the occasion.
The Quantum brand published several well known titles, including Keystroke (pictured) and Blinds. First released in 1992, Keystroke allows users to replay desktop actions through shortcuts. Blinds is a utility that increases the amount of space available on the desktop. Stuart is also famous amongst RISC OS users for setting up the once-popular Acorn Cybervillage website.
He said: "I've decided to shut down Quantum Software, so here is a free copy of our commercial software - Keystroke and Blinds, including their source code.
"It's been an interesting 16 years developing these programs. Get them whilst they're available. When they're gone, they're gone. I'll release the other programs if I can be bothered."
Punters rushed to thank Stuart, who has gradually withdrawn from the RISC OS platform while blaming increasing ill-health. One user added: "I hope the decision to wind up Quantum Software does not reflect a further deterioration in your health. I would like to wish you good health for the future."
The files are likely to reappear on riscos.info and riscository.com when Stuart's website hosting runs out.
