Snes9x update pre-released by emulation master David McEwen: Retro Fun

By Chris Williams. Published: 24th Jan 15:11:58 | Permalink | Printable

RISC OS emulator guru David McEwen has today pre-released his updated SNES console emulator.
Snes9x uses the latest cross-platform source and as it is a pre-release, certain features are omitted. These will be added back later, assures David. It is advised that a StrongARM processor is used to emulate the SNES and David has taken features from other ports of Snes9x to enhance the RISC OS version. In his announcement today, David commented,
"Apart from compatibility the other pro of using this port is that the hires option works so you can play games such as Smash Tennis and see all the options. This port should work with the available frontends.
"Mario Kart will be slow, as the chip emulation (DSP1) for this game uses alot of floating point math. I have rewriiten some functions in fixed point, but there is a lot of work to be done there. Speed is definitely going to improve for all games as I get down to optimizing routines.
"If you have any problems or want any features don't hesitate to mail me."
