Let your RISC OS computer know who's boss: Easy C++ is back

By Chris Williams. Published: 6th Feb 18:14:24 | Permalink | Printable

Creating applications today for computers is becoming less and less laborious. Many software engineers today, as they like to be called, prefer to use what's know as object oriented programming languages. These langauges allow the software writers to instruct computers in a very flexible and structured manner. C++ is a very popular language which is used in both industrial, commercial and freeware applications. Now before you cry, "Whoa, hold on there Poindexter", RISC OS software company ProAction have re-released the very aptly titled package, Easy C++. Easy C++ is aimed at beginners to the realm of C++ and is geared to introduce users to object orientated programming and support them thereafter.

We spoke to Dave Bradforth of ProAction regarding the release of Easy C++. According to David, he had come to be involved with Beebug in quite a major way over the past three years. Initially based within the Beebug showroom, he'd noticed even then that a number of Beebug products had reached the end of their profitable life for Beebug. Easy C++ was one such product.
At the first available opportunity, David -and David Holden of APDL- partnered up to release a CD-ROM edition, together with a separate printed manual, of Easy C++. By offering the manual on disc and separately, they could keep the price low for those who don't wish to obtain a paper manual.

"It's intended as an absolute beginners introduction to C++ programming", comments David of ProAction. "The response we've had (at least so I'm told) has been mostly positive, and the new StrongARM compatible debugger seems particularly welcome."
Finally, we enquired as to Easy C++'s compatibility with the expected RISC OS 32bit change over. According to David, as long as there is an interest from users, ProAction hope to support future OS developments.

Rather than reselling a previously Beebug product, ProAction have also enhanced Easy C++ for new and exisiting users. Easy C++ release 1.10 now in addition features:

  • EasyDebug is now StrongARM and RISC OS 4 compatible
  • Compiler and language tutorials supplied on disc
  • Updated manuals supplied on disc

ProAction of course welcome ideas for improvement and are looking to support the major freeware libraries in future versions. The full version costs 29 (inc. VAT and UK postage) and distributors APDL can be contacted at:
