More printers supported with Gutenprint update Published: 17th Aug 2007, 23:05:26 | Permalink | PrintableSehr gut Quality printer driver package Gutenprint for RISC OS now supports over two dozen more Epson printers. Developer Martin Wuerthner announced this week version 2.20 of the software can drive 30 new devices.
The list of freshly supported models is: PictureMate 200, 210, 240, 250, 280; PictureMate Flash, Pal, Snap; PM A820, PM D870, PM G4500, PM G850; Stylus Color C79 (pictured), C87; Stylus Photo 1400, 1410; Stylus Photo R230, R240, R245, R260, R265, R270; Stylus Photo R350, R360, R380, R390; and Stylus Photo RX560, RX580, RX590, RX640.
Martin said: "Gutenprint supports high-resolution printing with photo-real print quality and offers colour correction for different media types, such as glossy photo-paper, overhead transparencies, etc., as well as user-defined colour correction - for example, brightness, contrast and saturation."
Gutenprint was brought to RISC OS as a port of a library originally written for Linux and other Unix-based operating systems. It integrates with the RISC OS printing system to allow third party applications to print to more than 800 printer models, and its development is funded by donations.
• Meanwhile, some users have had success in using new all-in-one printers which combine printing and scanning into one device. By scanning to a memory card or USB memory stick, images can be easily transferred onto a RISC OS computer - skipping the need for someone to develop new dedicated scanning drivers. See this Usenet post or the rest of the thread for details.
