Get new software alerts with Rover beta Published: 14th Oct 2007, 23:42:32 | Permalink | PrintableWith RiscPkg in development, is this barking mad? A new program that alerts users to new versions of software and helps punters search for programs to download is nearing completion.
Beta testers are needed to test drive Martin Avison's new Rover utility, which can keep track of installed programs and sense when new versions are available for download.
Rover uses the riscos.org software database to hunt down applications and look up new releases. Although users can access the database through a normal web browser, Rover provides a more friendly user interface, pictured, to the service.
To give the program a go, drop Martin an email to rover at avisoft dot f9 dot co dot uk. He warns he will not be able to reply to requests until after October 20.
Martin's software is separate to the RiscPkg project, which also allows punters to search for programs and get the latest versions.
