The Master returns: Proaction welcomes back database Masterfile 3By Chris Williams. Published: 16th Mar 18:19:38 | Permalink | Printable
Proaction, publishers of RiscCAD and EasyC++ amongst other RISC OS applications, announced ealier this week the relaunch of database application Masterfile III. Masterfile 3 was previously published by ex-RISC OS dealer Beebug. Database applications, like Masterfile, collect, order and present data. Data is entered into fields that catagorise and define the type of data allowed. For example, the RISC OS news archive database on drobe.co.uk might be stored as:
|Article filename on server
|Proaction relaunch Masterfile 3
|Walking in Memphis
|and so on...
Each heading in the above table is a field and each line is a record. A database is a list of records and these records can be editted, searched for and presented graphically. As you can see, databases are ideal for things like customer details, warehouse inventories and GCSE IT coursework.
According to David Bradforth of Proaction, Masterfile has a lot of offer.
"It is fast, simple to use and provides powerful data management facilities suitable for home, education and business use", comments David in his usenet posting. David's posting allows reveals that Masterfile 3 allows minidatabases or subsets, to be created from search results, which update automatically when the main database is modified. Records can be printed in card, spreadsheet or label format.
The features list in the Proaction announcement is as follows:
