Executive decision time for Midlands showPublished: 23rd Nov 2008, 14:03:09 | Permalink | Printable
First came the DIY RISC OS laptops crammed into hand-beaten metal cases with all the style of a 1980s Skoda and the portability of a bedside table. Now one RISC OS user has given his A9home an executive look by neatly placing it into a Samsonite briefcase. John Rickman will be demonstrating his A9exec kit alongside Paul Stewart's third-generation A9home laptop at a RISC OS show in Birmingham early next month. Here's some pictures of John's mains-powered 'portable', which contains an A9home computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and a couple of power packs. John said: "I bought an A9home three years ago at a Christmas RISC OS road show. It was very much a beta product at the time and it was sold on condition that I did not whinge if it had problems. There were a few glitches at first but despite the lack of fanfare the problems I reported with my beta release have been fixed.
"It now runs alongside my Iyonix and there is no noticeable difference in functionality or performance."
He added: "It does has one big advantage over the Iyonix. It is packaged as a portable machine and I regularly take it to the Midland User Group meetings. It takes literally less than thirty seconds to close up and carry out, and can be back in use in the same amount of time."
• The Midland User Group Christmas Show takes place on Saturday, December 6 2008 from 10.30am to 4.30pm at the University of Birmingham Guild of Students.
