Drobe Awards 2008: The results Published: 31st Dec 2008, 17:40:38 | Permalink | PrintableAs the last few hours of 2008 slip away forever, it's time to recognise those who gave the most to the RISC OS platform over the past 12 months. The votes have been counted, the results have been tallied up by a simple perl program. Thanks to everyone who took part and congratulations to this year's nominees for being shortlisted. Without further ado, give it up for the Best of 2008 award winners - as chosen by you, the Drobe-reading public:
This year has been a bit of a coup for Martin Wuerthner, who develops both ArtWorks and the TechWriter family of software. Punters gave a big thumbs up to ArtWorks for its PDF import, CMYK colour support, and clipping and transparency updates earlier this year. EasiWriter/TechWriter also earned second place for its new structure view window. Open source cross-platform web browser NetSurf once again landed the top slot in the non-commercial category, a soaraway success for RISC OS users. Promising open source RiscPC-class emulator RPCEmu also caught the attention of readers this year too. RISC OS Open's continuing campaign to release the source code to RISC OS 5 was backed by punters. Meanwhile work to produce a port of the GCC C/C++ 4 compiler with numerous brave changes, including a move away from the native RISC OS executable format to bring in new benefits, was recognised. Finally, the Wakefield 2008 show in April topped this year's poll, followed by the South East event.
Here's to 2009.
