Easy listening with Dataplayer: John Duffell's digital music player By Chris Williams. Published: 5th Apr 21:40:55 | Permalink | Printable
When it comes to playing quality music on lower end machines, applications like John Duffell's DataPlayer make it all possible. DataPlayer is a module that plays 16 bit linear stereo (WAV files) with ease even if you are not using a StrongARM machine. This release sees an apparent optimisation to the player.
WAV files, unlike MP3s, digitally store music in an uncompressed form; the full details on the differences between WAV files and MP3 files can be found in the MP32WAV article. WAV files can be generated from CD samplers like AudioFS2 or conversion applications like MP32WAV.
drobe.co.uk has reported on previous versions of DataPlay and we recently contacted John Duffell about what he hopes to add to his music player in the future.
"I'm also going to do a stronghelp manual for the SWI interface, in case anyone wants to incorporate the module into their own programs", explains John who also intends to release previously developmental copies of DataPlayer for anyone who is interested, I guess, in how John wrote his application.
