R-Comp's back-up utility now compresses files

Safestore 1.10, which was released as a free upgrade to users, can package files to be backed-up in tar, spark or zip archives and also has improved error recovery and support for ShareFS.

Tar files aren't compressed, it's just a packaging format.

Can't recall what I put in the original post (guess I should click the link), but whilst I'm obviously aware that TAR files aren't actually compressed, they *are* an archive format (which is the word we use in the software), and take up less disc space than the source material, in the majority of cases (no directory wastage, and an effective LFAU of 512bytes).

The advantage of TAR for a backup app is virtually no performance overhead.
