ARM shows off prototype netbooks

A number of RISC OS users have called for a port of their favourite operating system to the range of ARM-powered netbooks unveiled last week. It is understood at least one of the devices features a processor compatible with the ARM Cortex-A8, for which a RISC OS port is being brewed over at RISC OS Open.

I belive all 4 of these machines are Cortex based processors. 2 of them are snapdragon and 2 are another make but are all supposed to be A8's You seen this??? looks like it is based on the beagle board which is the board being used for the ROOL HAL. It doesn't always pay to be quick off the mark. I have been studying the specs of netbooks for 9 months but could not make my mind up which one to buy. Unfortunately the cheap Linux netbook seemed to have been hijacked. Instead of a low spec Linux machine with solid-state drive most netbooks on sale now have hard-drives, come with XP and are priced as lowend laptops. PCWorld in Coventry last month had 21 different netbooks on sale; 19 of them were Windows XP machines with hard drives. The new ARM systems look to be very interesting. Glad I kept my powder dry. great news - such a netbook with RISC OS on it would really be a dream; and finally bring back the chance of seeing RISC OS on a very stylish and really smart hardware.
