RISC OS Now magazine to close this yearPublished: 4th Apr 2009, 17:09:09 | Permalink | Printable
RISC OS Now has been axed by editor Louie Smith and issue 12, due out later this year, will be its final edition, according to reports. The news comes just days after CD-based magazine Foundation RISCWorld announced it had published its last issue.Louie, 24, decided to close down the bi-monthly magazine following the death of her partner Paul Vigay, according to the latest issue of Archive. Paul played a big role in the production of RISC OS Now, from printing to looking after the magazine's website. The couple had purchased Xerox equipment to print the publication, literally, in-house at their home in Portsmouth.
Issue 11 of RISC OS Now was just about ready to go to press when Paul was found dead on a south coast beach in February. The next edition will be dedicated to Paul. Louie also plans to attend the Wakefield 2009 show.
Louie, who works as a council coastal engineer but plans to leave Portsmouth and go back into teaching, told Archive editor Jim Nagel: "Issue 12 will be the last issue. The magazine will close then.
"I anticipate not leaving the RISC OS market completely, but I shan't be as involved as I was."
