ArtWorks 2.9 set for Wakefield 2009 launch

Published: 11th Apr 2009, 14:47:41 | Permalink | Printable

The latest version of graphics package ArtWorks is set to be unveiled at this month's Wakefield 2009 show - and will allow PNGs and other bitmaps to be exported with alpha transparency intact. Click on the link with NetSurf, Firefox or some other capable browser to see an illustration of the exported translucency effect. The software will also gain extra features to the editing of text, including smart quotes and automatic ligatures, according to developer Martin Wuerthner.

What can I add. Thanks again to Martin who continues to improve it. The alpha-transparency should make it easier to make objects blend into the background without that nasty fringing.

Actually, alpha masked bitmap export is only one of the new features. There will be quite a few others and I have updated the feature list linked to by the article with some of them, though the final feature list has not been announced yet.

The feature list seems to be growing by the hour! Exciting! Just seen that Martin has added the much-requested "delete unused colours in a document". I'm really looking forward to what promises to be a good mix of swish new features and user-requested enhancements to the ArtWorks interface.

During a public meeting held over IRC tonight, the NetSurf team formally founded an organisation "in order to have a bank account and appropriate protections for the funds and assets of the NetSurf Project". Michael Drake was elected chairman in a three-way race for the top spot, John-Mark Bell was made treasurer and Daniel Silverstone was elected secretary. The group, which is partly funded by donations from punters, will hold its first AGM at the Wakefield 2009 Show on April 25.
