AcornICQ heads for sourceforge.net: Instant messaging for RISC OS

By Chris Williams. Published: 16th Apr 21:45:36 | Permalink | Printable

Earlier this month, drobe.co.uk reported on Angelo Melis' efforts to open the source code to his application, AcornICQ. AcornICQ is the RISC OS client of the popular internet messaging system and unfortunately for Angelo, maintaining AcornICQ has of late proved too much. This week Angelo has emailed us regarding the position of AcornICQ and how he believes he has found a viable solution to keep the application alive.

By opening the source code and uploading it to coders' site sourceforge.net, any RISC OS programmer is free to contribute to AcornICQ which will ensure future development. Below is what Angelo had to say to drobe.

"I got the approval of sourceforge to store the sources of aICQ. I did upload the sources in the cvs tree.

..To become an developer on the project, people need to become a member of sourceforge (this is free, see http://sourceforge.net) and then email me and I will make them a member of the project (these are the rules of sourceforge). This will put them on the mailinglists etc."

To get to the source throu anonymous cvs (through pserver):

  1. Type the following:

  2. After anonymously logging in:

    cvs -z8
    co acornicq

  3. After initial checkout, you can change into this directory and execute cvs commands without the -d option. For example:
    cvs update
  4. When people are logged on shell.sourceforge.net, Type the following:
    cvs -dloginname@cvs1:/cvsroot/acornicq co acornicq
