Welcome back to Drobe Launch Pad!

Published: 24th July 00:56:44 | Permalink | Printable

Please read this message from the Editors before having a look around the new site.

Hello and welcome from the Editors of Drobe Launch Pad! It seems such a long time since we removed the site so that the three of us, myself, Chris and Robin, could concentrate on our A-levels. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank everybody who wished us luck. No doubt weíll make a public announcement sometime after the results are published in August.

Although Drobe was removed so as not to distract our attention, I have taken the opportunity to completely recreate the site. Apart from the ascetic changes to the page design, my software which is running the site, Just for You, has been completely re-written from the ground up. Iím sure that if youíre a programmer you will be aware of the difficulties of rewriting software so that it acts the same as before...

Just for You 2, which will be available to buy for your own website in the very near future, incorporates some of the features you asked to be added to Drobe Launch Pad. Most notably, you will find that comments can be posted bottom of every news item and there is now a system of user profiles.

The site is not quite finished yet. For example, our forum and comments systems will also be fully integrated with the registration functions of Just for You 2.

So why have we launched an incomplete site? Firstly, because of public demand and secondly because I simply donít know how the software will cope or act in situations beyond those I have already tested.

The key to good software is testing and because I can only use one computer at once, I require your help. Please take a look around, click on things, test things out, try logging in (your old Drobe username and password should work), try posting to the forum and have a go at commenting on some news items. I would be most interested to hear your feedback, complaints, comments or bug reports so please email me.

Finishing touches will be added to the site over the next few days so please return regularly to see whatís developing. Our backlog of news items will be posted very shortly. Also look out for new posts to the RISC OS features section Ė we got some cracking articles lined up!

Thank you again for helping to test Drobe Launch Pad and thank you for your good wishes during our downtime. I hope that you will agree that the time has been put to good use!

Take care,
Peter.

Great to see site back online. Layout and response appear to be greatly improved and most elements seem to work well, except login / registration. Old username / password result in the wrong details being displayed.

Kind regards,

Hi Hi,

Great to see Drobe back! Well done. -- Andrew Harmsworth, Cambridge (normally) but today remotely from Brunel University, before heading to CERN tomorrow!

Nice design, speedy loading, and, if you can see this, a flashy coments system ;) Well done

2 things: Even on this 1024x768 screen the page is wider than the window (netscape 4.77/win98), and you've missed Microdigital out of the quick links bit - they may have terrible PR currently, but that shouldn't exclude them from the community. -- Al Cleminson

Hi guys, love the new look! I'm using Oregano and can't seem to log in, even though it says "successful". The centre column (this one) also one takes up 50% of the available space - it's right aligned! Best wishes, Simon (ksattic)

Quiet funny this, I'm not Peter Price, I'm Richard Butler. When I clicked on "Log in", I was automatically loged in under Peter Price !

Best Wishes,

Richard Butler, and not.... -- Peter Price, Shrewsbury, UK.

Argh! An imposter! Either that, or I'm not the person I claim to be - which would really screw with my mind... :) -- Peter Price, Shrewsbury, UK.

UPDATE: As you can now see, the comment system is working correctly. Registration and your personal settings pages will be online soon. The forum has been modified so that it remembers who you are after you log in on the homepage. Lastly, you can view other user's profiles - for example, click on peprice to the left

Hi, Well done on the comment system - and the whole of the site too! I like the idea of profiles, but I can't change mine as I get a 404 when I click Personalise.

HTH and congratulations!

OK, just noticed: Personalise at the top goes to drobe.co.uk/settings which is 404. If you click "View Your Profile" under "Your Launch Pad" on the left, then it works.

That goes to drobe.co.uk/profile. If you can, an edit button to edit posts might be useful for silly people like me :)

Great to see you back. When I log in I am welcomed as 'guest'. I would like to be known as Phil. I went to register to see if I could change this and got a 404.

It's certainly running faster than last time but that's due to Pete's streamlining. Big news roundup to follow.

Small suggestion for the comments, make each comment seperate from the others as they do on IconBar doesn't have to be fancy but a small seperator would do a lot. Excellent overall look.

-- Peter McCarthy, Weymouth Good to see you back again- I've missed you. Using WXL, login was fine and I get all the columns on the page in the righ t place, which is nice... I did notice that your apostrophes were upside down and in the middle of the line, not above the letter where they shoul d be, but maybe I've missed the boat on recent trends with punctuation?Keep up the good work.

I would love to login but: 1. I can not remember my username/password. 2. I even tried to re register but that didn't work.

The parts of the site I have seen so far look great. I would say an improvement but I thought the previous one looked good too.

I can't even get the login. page. (From a PC at work this is)

Any connection ends up as the Peter Price, doing logout then gives me as guest (ok so far), but clicking login just makes me Peter Price again without askig for a username or password!

AhA!

Found the problem. The cookie doesn't actually get deleted when you click logout. So when you click login, it gets sent and your back where you started! -- AnDrew PUllan,
