Welcome back to Drobe Launch Pad! Published: 24th July 00:56:44 | Permalink | PrintablePlease read this message from the Editors before having a look around the new site. Hello and welcome from the Editors of Drobe Launch Pad! It seems such a long time since we removed the site so that the three of us, myself, Chris and Robin, could concentrate on our A-levels. On behalf of us all, I would like to thank everybody who wished us luck. No doubt we’ll make a public announcement sometime after the results are published in August.
Although Drobe was removed so as not to distract our attention, I have taken the opportunity to completely recreate the site. Apart from the ascetic changes to the page design, my software which is running the site, Just for You, has been completely re-written from the ground up. I’m sure that if you’re a programmer you will be aware of the difficulties of rewriting software so that it acts the same as before...
Just for You 2, which will be available to buy for your own website in the very near future, incorporates some of the features you asked to be added to Drobe Launch Pad. Most notably, you will find that comments can be posted bottom of every news item and there is now a system of user profiles.
The site is not quite finished yet. For example, our forum and comments systems will also be fully integrated with the registration functions of Just for You 2.
So why have we launched an incomplete site? Firstly, because of public demand and secondly because I simply don’t know how the software will cope or act in situations beyond those I have already tested.
The key to good software is testing and because I can only use one computer at once, I require your help. Please take a look around, click on things, test things out, try logging in (your old Drobe username and password should work), try posting to the forum and have a go at commenting on some news items. I would be most interested to hear your feedback, complaints, comments or bug reports so please email me.
Finishing touches will be added to the site over the next few days so please return regularly to see what’s developing. Our backlog of news items will be posted very shortly. Also look out for new posts to the RISC OS features section – we got some cracking articles lined up!
Thank you again for helping to test Drobe Launch Pad and thank you for your good wishes during our downtime. I hope that you will agree that the time has been put to good use!
Take care,
Peter.
