riscos.com Select site makeover

Select users to get online components, everyone else gets to see what they are missing

RISC OS Select on drobe.co.uk

As the release of the first Select CD draws nearer, the RISC OS Select home page has been treated to a new layout and opened with detailed information and progress reports regarding the development of RISC OS 4+ as well as an article explaining the new RISC OS cog logo. There's a few incomplete links here and there but drobe.co.uk has been assured that the site is still undergoing continuous development.

Components of the next edition of RISC OS are expected to be released to Select users very soon via a secure section of the Select website. Also on the Select users mailing list, one of RISCOS Ltd.'s developers posted to the group explaining the status of Select as well as a note to clarify the installation of Select on a RISC OS machine.

"I would like to take this opportunity to state that the entire Select install process will be reversable where non-distructive actions have been taken [1]", explains the posting, reproduced here after obtaining permission from RISCOS Ltd. "You will be able to return to the previous boot sequence with very little effort - for those who are interested, the change of boot sequences is achieved via the boot selector. I would also like to point out at this point that between the two boot sequences - your old boot sequence, and the Select boot sequence - there are no shared components. Components, such as System, will be copied as necessary to the Select boot sequence. This ensures that returning to the original boot sequence returns you to exactly where you left off, except for the additional space used by the inactive Select boot sequence.

"[1] That is, if you say 'install over already present applications', the installer will do so."

By the way, Select review article expected real soon now along with our Vantage review too.

nice page with some good information. Pity they didn't make a link to it directly from the front page of the riscos.com site :-) or even put it in the news section...
