GUI support for Python coders

Flexible and friendly language Python class release

Here's an interesting bit of information drobe.co.uk stumbled over today. You might be aware of a programming langauge called Python which is interpreted, object-oriented and classed as a high-level programming language. It can be used to develop all kinds of software, from desktop applications to processing scripts. It's like BASIC but more flexible and powerful. A RISC OS port of Python 2.1 by Dietmar Schwertberger can be found here.

Anyway, more to the point, in the early hours of this morning David Boddie released some add ons for Python for people using the language to develop software with GUIs.

"I've just uploaded some classes which might be useful for making simple graphical user interfaces (GUIs)", writes David in his announcement. "They don't mimic any standard API for doing this sort of thing, but it might be interesting to use them as the basis for supporting something like AnyGUI (http://anygui.sourceforge.net).

It is hoped that others will find them useful and help David to add and improve the classes by sending him constructive criticism. Screenshots can also be found on David's site.

Cool. I think I'll give Python another try!

If you wait a day or so, I'll upload a new version which supports simple drag and drop, and interactive help.
