TEK 1608 officially out Real Soon Now

Published: 20th Feb 2002, 23:40:38 | Permalink | Printable

Oh it's going to be so cool. We have date. You have the cash.

April 15th 2002 will surely be a happy day. Well, if you're a RISC OS user and you read this article.

"After more than four years of hard work, the RISC OS games company Artex Software has almost finished the realtime strategy game TEK 1608", reads a press release from Artex HQ. Artex seem quite confident in their release date, this editor is all too familiar with the struggle of working within sensible deadlines (where do you think the drobe editors have been for the past month! - ed) so we eagerly await TEK 1608. Even more so now that Artex promise to throw in their back catalogue of software- namely Exodus, Ankh and the BotKiller series. All for the tidy sum of 30 quid, I think that gets Artex onto the exclusive Drobe christmas card list now.

"The realtime strategy game which features multiple camera windows, lots of units, buildings, and different levels, will be released on CD, suitable for all state-of-the-art RISC OS computers, such as the RiscStation R7500, the RiscPC (including the Kinetic), the Mico, and the Omega. The game runs in screen resolutions from 640x480 up to 1024x768".

"We are sure that all RISC OS gamers will enjoy TEK, and by adding
these other great Artex games, the package definitely offers very
good value for money", says Dominik Heide from Artex.

Does this include the ports to Linux and Win32, or is that only Iron Dignity?

I thought Iron Dignity was never going to come out on RISC OS any more? Anyway, I'll settle for TEK, as it's probably more playable on current technology. :-(

Question: will it run nicely on my RiscStation laptop?

The RS Laptop is according to RS slightly faster than the R7500. Since TEK doesn't appear to have graphics that move as fast as say Quake, it should be very playable. Perhaps RS could give the first 50 people to order one a free copy :-)

April 15th is the 90th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic. I hope this is just a coincidence!

The Artex website says it's suitable for RPC, R7500, Mico and (IIRC) A7000. SO there's no reason why it shouldn't be playable on the RS laptop.

i thought this game was released years ago - its sad to watch such a performance. Get a PC and play games far better than this.
