LCC update

By Chris Williams. Published: 4th Jun 2002, 12:51:21 | Permalink | Printable

C compiler tweaks and a RISC OS state-of-affairs diary

LCC, the port of a user friendly C compiler for RISC OS software developers, is ideal for quick development builds of projects before a final build with GCC or Norcroft.

Currently maintained by Peter Naulls, version 4.1 Beta 9, release 2 features the following changes:

  • Fixed bug in ld sometimes leaving temporary files in WimpScrap
  • Add temporary work around for filename translation in libscl which would prevent lcc from working on many setups.
  • Rewrote !Boot to remove deprecated items.
  • Changed some paths to ensure lcc binaries only will be used.
  • Added some example programs with build files.

What's going on here?
Also worthy of note is Peter's commentary on the RISC OS world, presented and updated in diary form. This diary covers mainly technical topics and developments but should be of interest to any RISC OS user. Topics online at the moment include the USB driver situation and the Viewfinder graphics card amongst other postings.

nice to see progress in lcc.. personally I think the compiler is suitable for full development, not just for quick and dirty prototypes. and good to read about VF improvements.. ATI Radeon support.. wooh.. I wonder.. would it be possible for RS to incorporate a VF into the laptop??? -- Marco Frissen,

Really, lcc's output is *not* suitable for "full development", and I don't believe that was ever the intention here.

oh, come on, if someone can use basic for developing a full fledged application, certainly lcc is good enough. -- Marco Frissen,

You've completely missed the point.
