Programming in the Fourth Dimension

4thD/CJE push for programmers in new initiative Updated: 5/8/2002

After a one year rest, our favourite RISC OS retailer, CJE Micro's has relaunched its "RISC OS Programming Initiative". Note that this is not to be confused with this editor's own similarly named RISC OS Projects Initiative.

This time, it's under their aquired Fourth Dimension label, so you don't have to pay VAT. The idea behind The 4D RPI (as it's now called) is simple - if you can provide some evidence that you are developing software for RISC OS, then CJE will supply you with a cheap RiscPC or A7000(+).

Having a second machine can be useful for some kinds of development - not only does it allow developers to check programs on different setups and versions of RISC OS, it may also serve to give a degree of isolation to potentially unstable programs. And for those die hard programmers still clinging onto those RISC OS 3.1 machines, this might be enough of a nudge to finally get a RiscPC(even if it is a relatively underpowered RiscPC 610).

Decked out in typical Fourth Dimension Liverey, you can visit the 4D RPI for yourself.

Chris Evans at Fourth Dimension got back to drobe.co.uk the other day to tell us that they've already sent a RiscPC out to Europe for a new project, more details on that to come later. 4D are also following up four other other inquiries.
