Guess when Simtec USB will be available?

By Chris Williams. Published: 3rd Sep 2002, 19:01:06 | Permalink | Printable

NOW!

USB has got to be one of the highlights of 2002 for RISC OS users, the year we finally got our hands on this popular high speed interface technology. As you'd expect drobe.co.uk last year and earlier this year reported on USB developments. Now today after receiving a rather exciting email, we have some new USB news.

"Simtec Electronics are pleased to announce immediate availablity of their USB interface for RISC OS machines", writes Gareth from Simtec. "...Full information on the interface card can be found at www.simtec.co.uk. Details of development partners, supported devices and API information can be found at www.riscos-usb.com"

The basic USB podule cards include mice and keyboard drivers and retail around 80ukp. It acts just like a normal podule expansion card, you plug the card into your podule backplane and then use the USB sockets to plug your USB devices into. An ISA version is also available. Developers Simtec Electronics have been producing upgrades for the RISC OS market for over ten years as well as engineering Riscstation computer products.

Riscos-usb.com has been updated, the resources page now includes example driver source and the list of tested devices is much longer.
