Nettle 0.2032r
The ultimate RISC OS telnet client and terminal emulator for RISC OS has been released today, stamped version 0.2032r. Described as a "maintenance release" by the developers, the features and improvements list for this version includes:

  • Now includes French messages
  • Ctrl-F2 closes disconnected sessions
  • Added "linux" terminal type
  • Improved method for detecting URLs
  • Corrected pasting of large amounts of text to ANSI tasks
  • Various optimisations and speedups

Variations 0.15
Rob Davison, author of Compo, has updated his freeware image manipulation application to version 0.15. Variations is an excellent graphics app that allows you to easily enhance and transform your images. Version 0.15 includes the following changes:

  • You can now use shift-drag to move the image around within the thumbnail. This is particularly useful for the fade, shape and border tools.
  • Simple "undo" system now in place.
  • There's now a new choice for fade/shape/border scaling. This is the scale at which the relevant vector image will be plotted (centred) over the image.
  • Various user interface and menu tidying up.

OSLib 6.40
The programming library OSLib has reached several milestones, we discover, this week. Firstly, the library has been updated to cover the latest RISC OS Select and RISC OS 5 API calls, fixes for all known bugs in both C and assembler modes and numerous other enhancements. Secondly, the library and associated components have been relocated to Sourceforge.net, where you can get everything you need.

...and I gather it works on Iyonix. :-)

It should do, the archive contains instructions on how to get it working. If you're an iyonix user, you should mail Rob (that'd be Southerner) on how you got on.

Wow, very impressed by the quality and speed of Variations! (and of course Nettle, though I only use Nettle-ssh).

I'll have to take another look at OSLib too!

When I find the time, a new release of NettleSSH will appear with all these features integrated. I don't know when that release will be. I've got all the bits that they've done 'in' the NettleSSH version, but a reworking of some of the connection handling has left significant parts of NettleSSH non-functional.

The nettle bits are quite funky anyhow.

Does anyone know if nettle should work on RISCOS 3.1 or not?

(When I try it it exits when I click on the Icon)

Nettle doesn't work on RISC OS 3.1. We seriously recommend you upgrade to RISC OS 4 or better.

I've got select on my main system, (so Nettle is great on there), but I also have several 3.1 machines with network cards, which have their uses, nettle would be a nice addition to them. -- Jess

Plus (if I can't afford an Iyonix), I'm thinking of getting an A4
