Putting RISC OS on the mapBy Peter Naulls. Published: 30th Jan 2003, 17:40:56 | Permalink | Printable
Come on, we can at least beat BeOS, surely? One thing about using a minority OS, like RISC OS, is that as a user you may wonder how many other people are using your favourite OS and also where they're using it; you may recall that RISCOS Ltd.'s annual reports do a good job of pointing out where in the world people use RISC OS 4, for example. As it happens, we were just earlier this week escourted by a drobe.co.uk reader to a website featuring an OS World Map, where people can register their general location and what OS they mainly use on their computers. The site listed, among other weird OSes, RiscOS (sic) and we thought we'd better check it out in case they meant our RISC OS or some MIPS system that runs an old beast that also goes by the name of Risc/os. Well, you just never know.
Gürkan Sengün of the OS World Map site swiftly got back to us confirming he meant RISC OS and so we replied with some brief information about RISC OS and some links to RISC OS related websites. We like doing our bit and before some of you throw up your arms accusing us of another crime of online moral injustice, yes we know iconbar.com quickly jumped on to the item as soon as they got wind of it. We'll simply have to be quicker next time.
Anyway as the title suggests, you're invited to visit the site, register your location and favourite OS (yes, RISC OS, you know you want to) and push that user total up to something respectable. At time of writing, we're at 42 registered users already and it really isn't all that difficult or time consuming to do. After all this excitement, I suppose all we need now is something like this.
The OS World Map
